Not just for me, but for my local consignment shop owners, who ditched all their kid stuff (and the biggest chunk of their business) as well as many others crippled by these regulations. I so appreciate you leadership.Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09638394090435288121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811142208729284263.post-55253286313320991652009-02-08T12:17:00.000-06:002009-02-08T12:17:00.000-06:00I find that the News Media has REALLY let us down....I find that the News Media has REALLY let us down.

It's going to hit families in a painful way very soon, as they realize they can no longer buy (or donate) things at Salvation ARmy stores or Goodwill when times are bad.

So many families rely on those second hand stores to be able to clothe and equip their kids.

I suspect the government in about a week is going to be amazed by the outcry from THAT demographic.
(Hopefully Goodwill and Salvation Army are also informing their customers...)

When families realize this affects EVERYTHING (not just toys) down to the church bazaar and yard sale. We won't be the only ones screaming any more.

(I also think it's condescending of them to talk about home-crafters as unsophisticated or ill informed...a surprisingly large number of us have college degrees...and are either SAHMs, working other jobs, disabled, retired, or just INSPIRED to make things that we love, for consumers we love.)trinlaykhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13372726921097698397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811142208729284263.post-31309115539353228832009-02-08T04:28:00.000-06:002009-02-08T04:28:00.000-06:00Rick,Thank you again - I believe our politicians t...Rick,

Thank you again - I believe our politicians think we'll all run out of steam and pipe down once the dust settles. I'd like nothing better than to prove them wrong (I know I'm not alone).

In a reply to a reader's comment on my current post, http://tristansepinion.blogspot.com/2009/02/darkest-is-it-before-dawn-beyond-cpsia.html I wrote:

"...this country was built like a pyramid, with US as the foundation - supporting those "at the top" - and we STILL have the right to fight - to shake the earth beneath them - no matter how dark the days ahead...

My father used to say, love goes out the window when there's no food on the table. When we Americans begin to really go hungry here, our affair with the media and whatever it glorifies will quickly fade - make no mistake, we'll get down to the brass tacks."

So, regardless of the arrogance - regardless of what happens or fails to happen prior to Tuesday - regardless of the losses up front - let us ALL keep raising our voices in solidarity and not tire until our legislators are compelled to act by our will and in OUR interests, not tha of special interests.

FYI, I emailed the NYT today and I urge others to do the same, in droves! We should increasingly be raising our voices at our media, holding them accountable, as well - to fail to inform / demonstrate to the average citizen how hard this will hit him / her in the GUT is a huge oversight (as Walter Olson points out, the NYT hasn't covered it 'really' so, as sharp and wonderful Olson's contribution is, these 'big boys' need to be called onto the carpet by those of us unyieldingly demanding answers).

You're doing a stellar job,
Tristan Benz
Maiden AmericaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
