The CPSIA authorized an increase to the agency's woeful budget and while Congress is busy blaming Nord, the check has still not been written - Explain this hypocrisy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811142208729284263.post-86155897029598537332009-02-04T19:08:00.000-06:002009-02-04T19:08:00.000-06:00Rick,I'm a mompreneur (all handmade, U.S., no toxi...Rick,

I'm a mompreneur (all handmade, U.S., no toxic glues, hire moms / military wives in Washington, etc.) who would like to see 2009 known as the "Year of The Recall of Incredibly STUPID LEGISLATION."

This issue has prompted me out of comfort zones - to make 2 videos on You Tube (Power2Parents). I liken it to the crisis in Whoville and I believe that NO MEASURE, short of getting our legislators (read servants) to repeal the ENTIRE law is sufficient. They should be made to start COMPLETELY over - by the WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

There's only one problem...as I wrote on my blog, it seems to me that people these days are like stunned cattle, headed for slaughter...

In a response to a reader’s comment I received to my anti-class-action blog post (http://tristansepinion.blogspot.com/2009/01/cpsia-class-action-lawsuit-my-vote-is.html), I wrote:

"Our job, as citizens, is not limited to getting out and voting. Our freedoms come at a price and if that means getting together on the streets across America, banding together in solidarity and refusing to comply to tyrannical, self-destructive and ill-conceived laws in OUR country, that’s a price I’m most willing to pay – YOU?!

If so, let's rather spend our time figuring out how to get the crowds out onto the streets! That oughta draw the media's attention!!

We have a choice – we can spend energies on lawsuits OR on practicing good citizenship – getting the bums thrown out – holding Waxman accountable for his failure to hear and exercise the will of the people – ensuring our government is truly one OF the people, BY the people and FOR the people.

Staging protests and rejecting compliance in far-reaching solidarity is one way to make a powerful statement.

We DO NOT have to scramble around like rats in a cage doing what we’re told by dictators – if this is what our democracy has come to, I say it’s darned worth our time and sacrifice to see to it that THIS is what we focus on changing.

What I see is a nation stunned – like cattle headed for slaughter.

Most are working to comply, not protest. This is what is chilling. I think those of us who have enough backbone to break the ranks of sheep-dom ought to stand in solidarity and take action – galvanize the masses onto the streets and let THAT take the media by storm. Let THAT take Waxman from listening to special interests (like this toxic coalition that started this nightmare!) to OUR interests.

Waxman is only as powerful as we permit him to be. If the WHOLE of America’s shopkeepers refuse to comply, there is NO WAY the government can throw us ALL in jail, etc.

So what are we? Men or Mice? What are we afraid of - who says we can't all band together and refuse to comply? Is it the magnitude of this idea? Is it the work it entails? Is it just the kind of fear we have accumulated over time, as we have not been provoked to do more than vote in many, many years?

There are times in history where people must rise up and decide, together, what they want for America. As parents, it's time to decide what WE want for our children - it is in OUR hands, not in the hands of politicians or attorneys. I, personally, believe this is one of those times and I believe we have the authority and power to make change without electing it (or the hope of it)!"

Obviously, what most deeply concerns me is that many people seem to lack an understanding of how to participate as citizens, much less work in solidarity anymore. This is OUR country and these are OUR children - when a law that replaces "Mother Approved" with "Big Brother Approved" isn't enough to make all parents see red and march in the streets and a knee-jerk reflex, then... I am...at a loss.

So – Rick - my question is - how do we educate the masses, bring people together in solidarity and inspire the PEOPLE to rise up and hold the politicians accountable (no more blame game – no more wool over the sheep’s eyes!)? I am one woman – one mom – one voice – with a mean pen and not enough contacts, apparently, to get what I believe is needed on this one – a movement of solidarity going.

Ultimately, lawsuits won't cut it. Politicians won't cut it. WE the PEOPLE need to be brought together- to be educated enough, angry enough and ultimately willing to pay the price of defending what is OURS to define as the 'best interest' of our children and their future in this country.

I think I’ve officially snapped! ;-)
Thanks for your informative posts,
Tristan Benz
Maiden AmericaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
